Upon winning the 1993 Nobel Prize in Economics, economic historian Douglass North said the following: “economic history is about the performance of economies through time. The objective of research in the field is not only to shed new light on the economic past but also to contribute to economic theory by providing an analytical framework that will enable us to understand economic change.” In short, history with the light economic theory and economic theory made lively through historical tests.
This is the objective of this blog: it seeks to explain contemporary economic issues to the general public by using history. Moreover, it will seek to provide hard-to-access-online data on a very wide range of topics. Some data sets are only found within books and have yet to be made “computer-friendly” while others are just dispersed everywhere. These data sets will be used very often to shed light on some issues or just presented by themselves.
